Bloglovin' Tutorial....It's time to make the switch!

A little while ago, Google made the announcement that it would no longer host Google Reader as a way to follow your favorite blogs beginning on July 1st.   This means you will no longer see a list of updated blog posts when you log into the Blogger Dashboard and Google Reader.  This "Join This Site" Google Friend Connect button that you are so used to seeing is speculated to disappear as well.

Fortunately, there is a way to easily keep up with your blog reading through a relatively new website, Bloglovin'.

First, you are going to want to click the Bloglovin' link I posted above and go to the Bloglovin' website.  Click the "Join Bloglovin" button.

Now you can create an account with Facebook.  I actually just clicked the link below the Facebook button and signed up with my e-mail.

Then, you will be prompted to check your e-mail and verify by clicking the link that you were sent.

Click the blue "Import from Google Reader" button.

Click "Accept" and you are done!  The next screen will show you that your favorite blogs are being imported.

And now you're done!  All your favorite blogs are in one place.  Just scroll down to see recent posts!

Now, what will you do when you find a new blog you want to follow?  Well, I assume many bloggers
will be looking for a new way to keep track of their followers.  I have installed this Blogger button on my blog to give future fans an easy way to follow.  You can also use the search feature in Bloglovin' to search for a blog and add it to your reading list.

I hope this makes your transition from Google Reader to Bloglovin' a little less painful!

    1. Google hasn't really said much about what will happen when Google Reader disappears. I'm not sue if the Favorite Blogs feed would go away, but I think that the post updates from the blogs you read in the dashboard might.

  6. Melissa, your chalkboard "Follow Me on Bloglovin'" button is fabulous! Is there a way for me to use it on my blog?

    1. Chrissy, this is how you can install it on your blog...

      1) Install the normal widget from Bloglovin

      2) Click on the little tools in the bottom right corner to edit the HTML code

      3) Look for what is in the last set of quotes and delete it. This will be the image and should be a link to a .jpeg file.

      4) Replace it with this: http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a481/melclem7/ScreenShot2013-06-19at94405AM_zpsd2f1d8b3.png?t=1371660635

Please let me know if this didn't work for you.....hope it does!

  7. I've seen a bunch of blogs using your cute button. May I please use it too? I also added the followers button...it is now up to 124 google followers 384...we will see if others switch before it is too late to transfer their blogs! I did love the fact that it kept my folders intact.
    Thanks,
    Nancy
